We attended the 36th Annual Pear Fair yesterday in Courtland California.
These folks really know how to put on a show! After 36 years, it's still small but it's oh so fun. They had a morning Pear Run for kids and adults, Pear Parade, Pear Pie eating contests, Pear-ade, Pear Coolers, Pear cake, Pear Strudel, Pear-tinis, Pear-mosas, Pear muffins, Pear Bread, Pear Sausages, Pear Ice Cream...I could go on and on but I think you get the idea.
YaYa enjoyed the bounce houses, the huge roasted corn on the cob and the variety of music.
The parade was complete with a color guard, local folk taking part waving their flags with pride,
a master of ceremonies who dressed as a pear.

a master of ceremonies who dressed as a pear.
Of course there were pear blossoms, (little girls who'll grow into future pear princesses or maybe even pear queens) princesses and a pear queen.
It was nice to see the firemen, police and coast guard in the parade as well. Surprisingly, the only thing missing was a marching band.
We had to stop to take pictures of the pear trees and to buy a bag full too. Guess how much the 10 pound bag of pears cost. $5.00! The ones in the store go for over $2.00 a pound. If this doesn't convince you to buy direct from the farm nothing will.
You may wonder what our favorite part of the day was.
Eating the pear pie we bought! Of Course.
It has a texture much like an apple pie and is oh sooo good! Will you please share pictures from your local trips to a market or seasonal fair with me? Can't wait to see them!

Now this..is the sort of event that I scour the internet for. What a score for that bag of pears, but it was everything else that made this sound like a really wonderful day.
I'll be sure to share pics of my trips to the market/festa/sagra when I come across them!
Yummo! Looks and sounds like you all are having a GREAT tme exploring your new home and things around there to do! I am so jealous!
Just finished a new post. 6:35 my time. I miss talkin to ya directly as well! :-) There are so many neat things around you! Yes, I have a lot too...just no one to really go and do any of them with. Mark won't go and do a lot of them because he feels like crap most of the time.
Next post....Surgery and/or the end of one job and moving on. Not sure yet! Maybe both! Anywho...Mark's surgery is scheduled for August 18th. Of course I start my new job on the 14th. grrrrr
How lovely to have young children! Mine have grown, my youngest is 13, and while I have a lot of freedom now that I no longer have to change diapers and feed a baby in the middle of night.. I do wish one turn the clocks back sometime, for just a while.
