A little about me and my family...

My photo
My love of people, photography and the world began as a child. My family moved a lot and taking pictures was my way of remembering friends, capturing special places or moments and holding them close. Becoming a wife and a mother has always been a dream of mine and I count my blessings daily. I started this blog shortly after our daughter, Yaya joined our family through the blessing of adoption. Its purpose was to share pictures and stories about our life with family and friends. Later, it shared our adoption journey to our second daughter, Baby Bird as well. Now that our family is complete I like to think of it as our family’s journal or life book. I'm passionate about life, my family and preserving our history one snapshot at a time. The thing that amazes me most is the abundance of beauty God blesses us with every day and in the simplest ways if only we take the time to slow down and appreciate them.

"AWKWARD"

I love listening to Yaya play and talk to her friends.  I admit more often than not I find myself  chuckling at the things she says, even when I shouldn't.  Right now her favorite word is "AWKWARD."  Thank you Rio.  To hear how she says it click on the darkened words Rio in the last sentence and fast forward to minute 2:25.

Here's an example of how she used it a few weeks ago.  We met a little friend of hers from preschool for a play date at McDonald's.  When they were in preschool together she had a crush on him something awful.  She would bat her eyes at him and ask him to marry her.  She even attempted to kiss him a time or two.  Anyway, when we asked the kids who wanted to pray before we ate her friend, Jed said, "I want Yaya to pray."  Yaya quickly bowed her head and began her prayer.  It sounded something like this,

"Dear God, Thank you for my family.  Thank you for my friends, Jed, Jackson, Elizabeth, Aisha, Cecily, Casey and Bailey.  Thank you for my teachers and my school.  Thank you for my dogs. Please bless this food to our bodies.  Amen."

Without skipping a beat she looked across the table at her friend Jed and asked him, "Jed, did your heart go bumpety bump when you heard me say your name in my prayer?"  Silence came from Jed's side of the table as he looked down at his hamburger.  Without skipping a beat Yaya quickly responded, "AWKWARD!" and then she proceeded to laugh hysterically.

I just love her positive attitude and funny sense of humor.  She loves to make people laugh and can't tell enough, "Why did the chicken, the witch or the pumpkin cross the road jokes?"  I pray this is a character trait she enjoys and uses to bring others closer to her as she grows.
