The Better Late Than Never Spring Break/Easter Post

Easter Week or Spring Break kicked off with a play date with moms and kids from church. Each mom brought 12 plastic eggs (filled with treats) per child. Each child was told they could have no more than 12 eggs for their basket. This way everyone would have the same amount. Sounds pretty simple right? Well, who would have thought we needed to worry about wild party crashers in the middle of the afternoon? This little guy was bound and determined to get his fare share of Easter chocolate

 and he succeeded too.

After the eggs were "well hidden" Alicia, author of Ribbons and Roughnecks read the story of why Christians celebrate Easter. Contrary to how it might appear, Yaya was paying very close attention to the story. In fact, she kept jumping in and shouting out what happened to Jesus next. Interruptions aside, she really was sweet and I was darn proud of her.

 

Finally, they went to hunt for their treasures. Yaya found hers pretty fast and was eager to help her buddy, Jed find his eggs too. (She hopes to marry him some day you know. Wink Wink) Everyone had a really good time celebrating, playing and eating together.

 

Tuesday, Yaya was invited to her first boy/girl birthday party. It's theme was Star Wars and Jed (SMILES) was the birthday boy. Everyone was encouraged to dress as their favorite Star Wars character. Who else could Yaya come as but Princess Leia? She had no idea who Princess Leia was then nor does she have a clue who she is now. She didn't care who she dressed like as long as the title "Princess" was involved.

Naturally the party turned into the girls against the boys or GOOD verses EVIL. The girls of course were wishing they could be rescued by Luke Skywalker or "prince charming" but instead found out they were on the dark side, hence the "Bad Guys." They also learned if there was going to be any RESCUING going on they would have to do it themselves. YEAH FOR GIRL POWER! LOL

What Star Wars party is complete without lightsabers and

a Darth Vader Pinata? Even Jed's mom dressed like Princesss Leia.

The food and cake were huge hits!

Later in the week, we died eggs at Nana's sadly the pics are on her camera. We also decorated sugar cookies with friends one afternoon.

Yaya and I look like we might have had a little too much frosting. What's up with the crazy faces?

We had to save at least one for daddy to decorate too.

Friday night, we attended church. Saturday, we returned to enjoy the Easter festivities.

The church had slides, bounce castles, games, food, friends and Easter Egg hunts for all ages.

Pastor Ted's Easter Service message was about the Apostle Peter and how he struggled to serve and honor God like we do. Peter had a "flip side." The Flip Side in other words was the person we were before we came to know God and then person we are as a result of knowing God. We were asked to return these signs with with how we struggled before we accepted God on one side. On the flip side we were asked to write how we feel now that we've asked God to come into our lives. People placed them in the yard in front of the church. Here's a few examples of what people shared. My family Easter morning.

Bunny cakes are kind of a tradition in our family from when my brother and I were kids. My mom decided to continue it this year for Yaya. Cute and oh so Yummy too!
