While living in Vegas and when visiting we can't get enough of the Bellagio water show. The rainbow in the shots was an added bonus wouldn't you say? The water ballet goes off throughout the day and into the night. Each performance is different and set to a new song. I miss having such unique things closeby. More to come from my trip in the days to follow!
My Husband Rocks
While I was at my conference in Vegas Yaya had a bit of a problem. It actually started just before I left. Yaya through her bottle across the living room in a fit. I have been trying to figure out when to take it away. Well, that "little fit" told me That day was the perfect time! We put them all away and we told her, "You're a big girl now. No more Bottle." Yaya didn't agree and she stopped drinking. She refused everything but ice. As a result, her plumbing backed up. (Do you see why I dreaded this moment and postponed it for as long as I did?) Thankfully, she has a great dad who understands the importance of staying regular. We tried everything prune juice, lots of water and even ice chips. By Thursday (the day I left) we knew it was time to call in the big guns. Bird went to the pharmacy, talked to the pharmacist and got her suppositories. When THEY DIDN'T WORK he made an immediate appointment with Yaya's dr. The Dr's advice was wait til Monday and bring her back in if things hadn't changed. Bird was less than impressed with this advice! That would mean 7 days w/o any working plumbing. Can you imagine? Late Sunday after much water, prune juice and another suppository the pipes started to clear. I'm so proud of them for getting through this together. Usually, I am the one who gets to handle these fun issues. I'm thankful that when he has to Bird steps up to the plate and tackles tough and icky jobs.
This is another reason why My Husband Rocks!
In case you were curious, Yaya won the bottle battle (this time). Bird gave in to get milk in her system. Everything else was via cup or straw. Any suggestions on how to fight this battle without having to endure such extremes our second/final go around? If she is this stubborn now how are we going to handle her teenage years? PRAYERS PLEASE!

Sounds like a blast in Las Vegas... I would love to go sometime... lula is there now too apparently, the whole blogging community should have met there for some fun!
As for the bottle, you might just have to make a clean cut and stick to it. I have had to do that with Eli. It is hard but eventually they will give in...unless you do beforehand... It is a lesson in obedience and if she is strong willed then you are going to need to rein that in while she is young to know you are mommy and in authority. It is hard and a battle but worth it in the long run. A friend of mine told me once with her strong willed child that she would just offer him the cup (for example) and if he refused, she would just say okay, and leave it on the table for when he was ready... and she didn't push it or panic. He won't starve himself and if the doctor was okay with it, then I wouldn't be too worried. When we were potty training our son he was so afraid to poop. He went almost 2 weeks without holding it in because he was afraid and we didn't push him on it, and didn't go back to diapers just for pooping... and asked the doctor and she said to just wait it out, he will eventually...and he did. I am not sure if any of this helped and every child is different... you just need to decide and stick to your decision... they are smart and know if they can walk all over you. I was strong with the first and the second one gets away with more and I constitanly need to evaluate my actions and see if i am helping or hindering him in my inconsistant behaviour.
Great pictures for Friday. The last time I was in Vegas, the Beliago hadn't been built yet. My husband and I are sooooo itching to get back.
Speaking of husbands, hats off to yours. I have to take care of all the medicial stuff around here. He just can't stomach it.

second of all, the bottle. If you are putting anything in it besides milk, than that would be the first thing to stop. "Big girls drink juice/water from big girl cups, not baby bottles." One thing my aunt did, was one night cut ALL of the tops of the nipples off, since the bottles were getting old and gross anyway. Then, the next morning she said, "Oh no! The Bottle Fairy must know you are a BIG GIRL now! And if you drink out of your cup, then she will bring you a PRIZE!!!" My neighbor had a "Bottle Funeral". She took her little one to the dollar store/toy store and let her oogle over the toys. when Little One found something, she said, "Oh you want that??? Well, you can't have that until we throw ALL of your bottles away." They left the store empty handed, but of course Mom took a pic of the item w/ her camera phone. Anyway, at home she put the pic of the toy on the fridge. Little One saw it EVERYDAY and whined for it. The mom stuck to her guns. She got out a trash bag and said, "Let's put all your bottles in here, and then we can go and get the toy." The first few times Little One said no. Finally, after several days, she gave in.
Thirdly - yes. your husband rocks!
Love those picutures! I never had any problems with the bottle. I would start out just giving it to him in the morning and at night not during the day! Then slowly went to a cup with spongbob because he is a spongbob freak -- Then he decided he wanted the sb cup and not the bottle.

The bottle saga...oh my! Well, I just don't know if I can remember that far back...tee hee Actually, my first child threw the bottle down one day and that was the end of that...kid you not. My son was a little more difficult...he wanted a pacifier that was literally in shambles before we lost it one day and then you know, crying sleepless nights followed since no other pacifier would do. I'm sorry I'm not being very encouraging here.
Trust me, you'll find your way with it..lots of prayer...lots of give and take.

Hmmm, bottle issues...tough one, and I have no experience on it but I would certainly attempt to not allow it during the day and wean off from morning first, then night if using at those times and only water in it regardless. All other liquids must come from juice box, sippy cup or ? but no bottle. Praying for you on that one!
As for the pipes backing up, our girl had pipe issues from the get go and so we dealth with this frequently...we used magnisium citrate. But I would check with the pediatrician before using it even though it is available OTC.

As for the bottle, we wean our boys (Ellie never took the bottle) down to only using the bottle at night - we let them do this til they're almost 3 & with Zai, we conveniently 'lost' them - at this age they understand it. Hope it goes well whatever you decide!
Fun pics... I've never been to Vegas. Shane has, back in 2002. He has some pretty good pics of all the casinos... but all of his were taken at night!
I don't have any advice for getting Yaya off the bottle. As soon as both of mine had their one year check-ups and the dr said they could start whole milk, I stopped the bottle cold turkey! But neither of mine took a bottle to go to sleep, so maybe it was easier.
I have no ideas for the bottle. My daughter went straight to sippy cups. I never gave her a bottle. I will be praying though.

My husband and I went to Las Vegas to see Celine Dion in concert, and that was fabulous! We stayed at Alladin, but I loved the Bellagio best. I enjoyed seeing it decorated for fall in your post below. I just realized viewing your photos that they decorate seasonally, and now I'm wishing we could see it other times of year. I'll bet it's beautiful at Christmas!
I hope your little one will have an easy time giving up the bottle when you and your husband decide it's the right time.

I admire your husband's persistance; I think I would have given in with the bottle after the 1st day!!
Not sure how old she is, but assuming she is at least two, I would get rid of the bottle completely and rely on something else for dairy, such as yogurt, cheese, ice cream, etc. It won't kill her... :)
