be bitter if I want to!
OK, I have been trying very hard to stay positive but right now I'm just bitter. Bitter that my husband lost his job last year (along with 40,000 others) after 11 awesome years of service because of government "cut backs." I'm bitter that 5 years ago we were pretty much forced to buy a house in Las Vegas at the peak of the market because there weren't any rentals and now we can't sell it because that same INSANE market has gone to crap. Monday, we learned that that same house we currently own and bought 5 years ago for $285,000.00 isn't even worth $160,000.00 at this point and prices continue to drop. I'm bitter that for the 3rd time our mortgage lender isn't working with us as homeowners to prevent our home from foreclosure like all the others. I'm bitter that their excuse is that we have good credit and aren't late on any payments so it wouldn't help them to help us refinance or prevent our arm from ballooning. They don't see that in helping us stop the balloon it would prevent us from letting it go to the bank in foreclosure like so many others. Hm, sounds to me like that would be one way to help us help them. I'm bitter that another person down the street was in our exact same position and was able to refinance with her lender at no added cost AND that same lender wrote off the difference owed no fees or strings attached because they could see how helping the owner would help the lender in the long run.
YES friends and family, I AM BITTER! I'm bitter that we, like many people in the U.S. are honest hard working people and some days it seems like we can't get a break! My husband and I don't buy the newest gadgets and gizmos. We don't own fancy cars. Heck, we don't buy anything that we don't in fact NEED! We were taught how to handle our money and not to take or borrow what we could not afford. We don't have the opportunity to go before Congress and beg for bailout money like the Mortgage, Auto and now PORN (can you believe it?!) Industries who are supposed to in turn help the little people. What about us? The people who pay their bills every month on time if not early come rain or shine? Shouldn't we get the help to prevent us from ending up like SO many others?
I've been trying SO hard to pray and do all that I am supposed to as a wife, mom and Christian. I have prayed and I honestly believe that God will provide. I also know it will be in His time not my own. I know he will provide! He always has. However, it doesn't change the fact that right now things are stressful and I feel a bit bitter and out of control!
I am going to end this now but I ask that you all please pray for my husband and his job situation. I ask that you pray for a job/career that will provide him/us longevity and security while we're here on earth. I also pray for a calm and peace while I/we wait for the answers and next step. For those of you who may be struggling with lost jobs, health, home, etc. Please know, you are in our prayers too.

Praying! It's hard, so often I have to try to re-focus because I am getting bitter over inconsistancies in things like this. Just tonight we heard on the news about $100K+ incomes being increased by a third "to save the economy". I'd be happy if we earnt just that third! Ugh, it's the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer it never changes.
I'm with you! 100% with you! You did a great job of saying it too!
Sorry you're having to go through all of this.
I'll be praying as well. I am so sorry you are having to go through this all right now!!
We will pray!
HUGS from afar... praying for you and your family right now!!!
I am a firm believer that sometimes you have to let the bitterness out to make room for the positive to come back in. If you are ever in the neighborhood and have a chance to stop by, you may see what I mean...haha :)
But I can completely understand. I ran a small business owned by my Dad. He runs another one about 35 miles away. Yes, we still have jobs and we are very fortunate. However, the stress level that we are at day in and day out, trying to make ends meet, trying to pay our employees so that they can care for their families is unreal. It has been so difficult...we have also had to lay people off and it was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. So what I want to know, is where is our small business bail out? HA.
I pray that things will change for your family. That your husband will be able to secure a job soon and that this nation can somehow turn around and maybe learn a lesson or two.
I think God's ok with us being bitter sometimes & just wanting to stomp our foot & scream!!!! That's alot to take on at one time...
Things just dont seem fair, do they!! I'll definitely pray for your family & ALL the families going through the same thing!
Sorry to hear about everything -- I will keep you in my prayers. I understand where you are coming from -- I hate having to live check to check. I try and budget as much as I can. We would love to buy our own house, but right now I'm just to scared.
Hugs,
sending prayers your way! I know exactly where you are coming from. So far, Scott has make it through 3 layoffs in the past 4 months. Not sure how many more he will make!
I'm so sorry you all are going through this. I will definitely say a prayer for him AND you.
On a happier note, I have an award for you on my blog! :)
SO sorry... I would be mad too! Sending prayers your way. Do you all rent the house in Vegas out? Hang in there! Hugs!
It is very frustrating. You are in my thoughts.
I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts.
Umm, the porn industry is looking for a bail out?!?! WTH?? Will it really hurt anyone if they go under?
You do not have to work with the same Mortage Lender you are with right now. Go to someone else and see if they can work something up for you. My home has depreciated about $30,000 and my daughters $60,000. I am sorry you are faced with this problem, but keep focused on who is in control. By the way, it is fine to be angry.
Praying! We would love to sell our house and move, but no one's going to buy our house right now. We're staying put for ahwile! I am thankful that we got a pretty good deal on the house to begin with, so I don't feel like I'm losing a huge amount of money.
I hope you don't mind me asking, but I thought a job was why you moved away from Las Vegas??? Could you move back to Las Vegas and lie in the house?
I heard today that the economy is predicted to turn around by 2011. I'm hanging on to that-- I can live through this for two more years if I know there's going to be an end.
I can totally relate!! I also got laid off in August - at 28 weeks pregnant - nice right? Additionally, we've been through hell to close on our mortgage. We did a huge addition on our home and last January the completed project was valued at $407k...fast forward to the project being completed in August and they've reappraised it in the low $300's. So they've given us more cash already than our house is worth has taken from August to now to get them to convert our loan from construction loan back to mortgage. For about a month we didn't know what was happening and though they wouldn't close until we gave them cash back (that we didn't have - especially since this all happened at the same time I got laid off). Now they have broken it down into 3 seperate loans. The third one is unsecured and is amortized over 30 years, but will balloon to FULL payment being required in 10 years. They're assuming the market will change by then and we could theoretically refinance by then yada, yada. Luckily we know what's going on and know what this really means. Basically we have to pay off a big chunk within 10 years or they could foreclose on us. Interesting that the fancy/shady loan practices that got them into this mess is what they're still doing to try to save it now.
Sorry for the novel! You can tell I'm passionate about the subject.
My SIL told me about this post after talking to me today because i was complaining about the same thing... we refinanced our mortgage with one of the now govt bought companies 2 years ago when the market was great. We, of course, refinaced for a lot so that we could pay off debt and put on an addition... well, now the market has dropped and our home is worth $100 K less than we owe! And, when we talked to the company about help, we were told the same thing... our credit is too good and we aren't behind on our mortgage.
basically, the companies will help those that couldn't afford to be in their homes in the first place. UGH
So frustrating!
I hope that things work out for your family. And even knowing that many others are facing the same things doesn't make it any easier, does it? Hang in there! I'll keep you in my prayers!
wow! i had no idea you went through all of that. it is so hard to get rid of bitterness...but amazingly it will happen if you lean on Him. I know, I know..it is hard sometimes to do even that!
I'll be praying for you and keeping my fingers crossed that things improve for you soon...
I know what you're going through. My husband's job also became a casualty of the current economy..
It's really hard not to feel bitter...
Just know that you're not alone..
*HUGS* from a total stranger. :-) (I'm over from Candid Carrie)
